Eamonn was the lead author in a series of papers published by the Academy since 2024 including: Small Modular Reactors; The Energy Transition; Rebalancing Ireland’s Energy Policy; and Energy Security and the Future of Moneypoint Power Station. Eamonn is an electrical engineer with experience in the early part of his career in the cement industry in Ireland and in power plant projects in Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Congo. Eamonn subsequently worked as a management consultant – both for KPMG and self-employed – and was Chief Executive of cargo handling companies in Dublin Port for ten years.
Eamonn was Chief Executive of Dublin Port for 12 years to 2022 during which time he brought a programme of major port development projects from concept, through consenting, finance and on to completion. To date, this programme of investment has been €800 million. This role had a large emphasis on the influencing and development of public policy including at a senior political level.
