Alan leads the strategic direction and long-term planning of Ireland’s electricity distribution system. In this role, he is responsible for shaping the network’s evolution to meet the demands of a decarbonised, decentralised, and digitalised energy system. With a focus on enabling the integration of renewable energy, electrification of transport and heating, and the deployment of smart grid technologies, Alan plays a key role in aligning ESB Networks’ strategic objectives with national and EU climate targets. He works closely with stakeholders across government, industry, and communities to ensure the network supports economic growth and energy security. With over 25 years in a variety of roles across the Networks business, Alan brings extensive experience in utility management, infrastructure planning, and regulatory engagement. He holds an Electrical and Electronic Engineering Degree from University College Cork.
