Mark McGranaghan

Fellow of Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI)

Mark McGranaghan provides technical and strategic input and guidance across the organiation and for the electric utility industry around the world, working from the EPRI Europe office in Dublin.  Mark coordinates with research sectors at EPRI as well as the technology innovation function. 

He has authored more than 70 technical papers and articles on topics ranging from power quality to insulation coordination of extra high-voltage (EHV) systems. He has been a leader in the development of smart grids for the last 20 years.  Mark is an IEEE Fellow and in 2014 received the Charles Proteus Steinmetz Award for his expertise and dedication to power engineering standards development.

He is a co-author of the book, Electrical Power Systems Quality, now in its third edition, the premier textbook on power quality and compatibility since its initial release in 1996.

Mark has been with EPRI since 2003. He led EPRI research in the smart grid area and coordinated closely with government smart grid demonstrations and other efforts around the world. Prior to joining EPRI, McGranaghan was Vice President at Electrotek Concepts (1988-2003) and a Manager at McGraw-Edison/Cooper Power in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania (1978-1988).

Mark has Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in electrical engineering from the University of Toledo. He has a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Pittsburgh.
